Lieutenant Dan Taylor, from the movie Forrest Gump, was initially an â€Å"ordinary† character known to have a family line tradition of someone dying in each war. He was the next family member to serve, in the Vietnam War. Despite beating the odds of not dying, he still faced a near death tragedy. In Vietnam, he lead a platoon that was encountered an ambush by the Vietcong. During the surprise attack, he ordered a Napalm bomb drop against the enemies. Lt. Dan was convinced he was the next to follow the military family tradition after being hit in the legs during combat. Although he was saved, both of his legs were amputated after being sent to a hospital. Lt. Dan was selected because of the adaptation and acceptance he had with this dramatic change in his life. Eventually he ended up demonstrating a positive portrayal in the media about people with disabilities. After his injury, he was sent home and resided in New York City. The audience finds out that he became a shaggy bitt er alcoholic, who uses a wheelchair for mobility. Lt. Dan held a grudge for some time about being saved. He would rather have died in combat than to live as a double amputee. Within the city he runs into his rescuer Forest Gump, who earned the Medal of Honor. Lt. Dan is still distraught and shows no sign of gratification; but throughout the film he expresses that he is actually proud of Forrest’s valor.
